Increases the purchase of homes and gets its best data since March 2011

The sale of used housing rose 28.3%, to pre-crisis figures, while the new ones advanced 21.2%.

The sale of housing has skyrocketed. In March the best data was recorded in 6 years. According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), the purchase and sale of housing increased by 26.9% in March compared to the same month in 2016, to 40,461 operations, the highest figure since February 2011.

There is, however, a large difference between the March data and the February data, when purchases rose only 1.2%. Transactions on used homes increased by 28.3% in March compared to the same month in 2016, to a total of 33,100, a level that was not reached since September 2007.

The purchase and sale of new homes rose by 21.2% year-on-year to 7,361 transactions, the best figure since February 2016. The 89.8% of the homes transmitted by purchase and sale in the third month of the year were homes Free and 10.2% protected. The purchase and sale of free housing rose 27.6% in March year-on-year to 36,332 transactions, while protected housing operations grew 21.5%, with 4,129 transactions.

In monthly terms (March over February), housing sales jumped 13.6%, its highest increase in a month in March in at least five years. The last month of March, the highest number of housing sales per 100,000 inhabitants occurred in Comunidad Valenciana (150), Baleares (148) and Andalusia (121 in both cases).

This last one was the region that most operations on houses carried out in the third month of the year, with 7,976 sales and sales, followed by Catalonia (6,832), Comunidad Valenciana (5,854) and Madrid (5,684). The communities with the lowest number of housing sales were La Rioja (263), Navarra (453) and Cantabria (519). In relative values, the regions with the highest annual rates of house purchase were Cantabria (+ 48.3%), Aragon (+ 45.2%) and La Rioja (+ 41.4%). In total, 16 communities presented increases in year-on-year rates and only the Canary Islands registered fewer housing sales than in March 2016, with a decline of 3.5%.
