Sun care is a lifelong investment

Sun care is a lifelong investment

We are all well aware of the dangers of the sun, but for some reason we often choose to ignore expert advice.

Sunbathing on the beach, lying by the pool or walking along the promenade are all things we can enjoy in plenty here in Spain, but we must remember that these activities can also potentially play havoc with our health.
Therefore, since we live in a country where the sun shines a lot, it is really important to invest in good measures to help protect our skin against its harmful rays.
A report out this month from the UK states that a huge amount of Britons worry about skin cancer, but continue to put themselves at risk by allowing themselves to be burned by the sun. And I can only presume that many expats fall into the same category.
According to the study, although more than eight out of 10 people are worried about skin cancer, 72 per cent have been burnt in the past year. People tend to underestimate the damage that sunburn can do to their skin, and many think that skin reddening is just a harmless part of the tanning process, rather than a sign that you have damaged your skin. Therefore, investing in good sun protection habits is a must.
Being careful in the sun doesn’t have to cost a fortune, it just means using common sense. Avoid direct sunlight between during the hottest hours of the afternoon. Buy a good suncream and apply it liberally before exposure and reapply after every swim.
Cover up in a light cotton T-shirt and buy yourself a hat. Avoid exposing your face to too much sun now and save a fortune on anti-wrinkle cream later!
In the UK there has been a rise in people getting skin cancer. So be smart and save yourself the horror of having to deal with a health problem and doctor’s bills in the future.
