Torrevieja hosts European lifesaving championship

TORREVIEJA is to host the European Championship of Master and Junior Lifesaving which will bring together some 430 athletes from all over Europe.

The championship is currently under way until Sunday September 27 and will see responders and rescuers from 16 countries take part.

Torrevieja's Councillor for Sports Pablo Samper was accompanied by Jesus Troyano Diago (President of the Federation of Lifesaving Valencia and member of the board of the RFESS Royal Spanish Federation of Lifesaving), José Miguel Rodríguez Ferrero (Sporting Director RFESS) and Marta Cuetos Montero (Sports Secretary RFESS) as they presented the 21st European Championships Rescue and Junior First Aid and the third European Championship Masters Lifesaving.

Rescuers compete simultaneously on beach and in pool for five days carrying out safety competitions and first response medical aid.

Pablo Samper highlighted the great value of this sport which aims to save lives and said: “Torrevieja is actively working to attract sporting events because it is a commitment to the future, health and image of the city. This championship will mean the arrival of some 1,500 people, including athletes, technical and medical staff and guests.”
