10 Best Days Out on the Costa Blanca

5 Oct 2015
10 Best Days Out on the Costa Blanca

1. Go on a date

The edible kind! Visit Elche and see the Palm Date Groves. 200,000 of them in fact, and the only one in Europe. A UNESCO world heritage site too, since 2000. On a plus note, they make shoes here too, and you’ll find a few factory outlets around town – the perfect date then!

2. Something fishy

Back to nature on a fishy expedition. Take a trip to the Marine Reserve at Cape La Nao in Jávea. The many protected species are just one part of this day out, the views across the cape are breathtaking, choose a good, clear day for those prize winning photographs.

3. Visit ancient lands

It’s not just Spain on offer in the Costa Blanca. A day trip to Terra Mitica takes you on a journey to ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome in this ancient world themed park. Stomach churning rides, roller coasters and adrenalin filled hours for the whole family to enjoy.

Location: Benidorm

4. Meet the Big Cats

Terra Natura is the wild spot for a day out with 1500 animals, in themed areas to reflect their natural habitats. Get up close and personal with beasts from Europe, Asia and America – you can probably do this in the Benidorm nightclubs too!

Location: Benidorm

5. Go to the market

Not just any old market. The Central Market in Valencia is home to not just your average cabbage. 8,000 square metres on 2 floors showcasing the best of local produce, colourful spice stalls, fresh fruit, vegetables and fish mingle with eclectic architecture – it’s a great spot to meet up or while away a couple of hours with the smells and sounds of Valencia or picking the best of local goods.

Location: Valencia

6. Feel the sand, hit the surf

A day out on one of the many Blue Flag Costa Blanca beaches is a must do. A whole day, broken by a long lunch in one of the many beach side restaurants, back on the sand for the afternoon. Watch the sun slip down over the Mediterranean Sea and make your way back to your comfortable bed feeling all tingly and tired.

Location: You choose!

7. Get well and truly wet

Not the weather, you know the sun is going to shine! But at one of the water parks that the Costa Blanca is famous for – and you’ll have one of your best days out. The kids won’t want to leave, even after they’ve bombed down the water slides a couple of hundred times, and persuaded you, against your better judgement, to shoot through a black tunnel in an inflatable doughnut…not my best moment.

Choose from many, Aqualandia is probably the best known and well maintained – an exhausting Costa Blanca day out!

Location: Benidorm

8. Feel the beat of the city

Yes, a day out in the city and I agree, Valencia does seem the obvious choice. But you’re probably also just as close, if not closer, to Alicante – which is a wonderful city. Just like Málaga, folk too often tend to dismiss the airport cities and head out – but there’s loads to see and do. See the main sights, experience the great shopping facilities, try out the tantalizing tapas or maybe settle for a gourmet dinner for a change from your self catered holiday.

Location: Alicante

9. Have a glass of wine

Not just one, take a wine tour. The fertile and sandy plains of the Costa Blanca are home to some of the best grapes and subsequently wines in Spain. Book up and take abodega tasting tour, learning about the production from grape to glass. You’ll soon discover that it’s also the Wine Coast, not just the White Coast. Read more in an earlier post all about the 5 wine producing destinations on the Costa Blanca.

The kids won’t be too bored either, they can taste the Mosto – the grape pressings – just as tasty as the wine, but without the alcohol. You can try the real thing. A great way to spend an afternoon on the Costa Blanca….hiccup.

Locations: Jumilla, Abanilla, Teulada, Monóvar, Jalón.

10. Taste the Costa Blanca

For a whole day, just eat? Yes, make sure that you catch one of the many fiestas that take place up and down the Costa Blanca this Summer. The whole family will love thisCosta Blanca day out. It’s the best way to join in with the local community, and always there’ll be a giant pan of something tasty for you to get your teeth into. No prizes for guessing in these parts it’s likely to be Paella – that famous dish from the Costa Blanca. Admire the local ladies in their flamenco frills, dance to the music, and indulge in the fabulous food – Olé!
