Guardamar del Segura Moors and Christians

The annual Moors and Christians Fiesta in Guardamar del Segura in honour of Sant Jaume, the patron saint of Guardamar, starts on Friday 15th July 2016 and continues with events every day until the 26th July! The programme includes parades, concerts, parties, firing of the blunderbuss guns all form part of this fiesta, so there is something for everyone and lots to enjoy! If you are in the local area this fiesta is not to be missed!

Friday 15th July

  • 21:30 Parade of the Fiesta Queens. Route: Plaza Labradores, C/Mayor finishing in the Plaza de Constitucion.
  • 22:00 Announcement of the fiesta.
  • 22:30 Presentation about the flag bearers and captains.
  • 23:00 Proclamation of the coronation of the Lady of Guardamar, when the legend is re-enacted. A stunning performance that tell the story of a young girl who falls under a spell and can only be released by a brave warrior who first has to battle against the forces of evil, a dragon, in order to free her. The spell can only be broken if he kills the dragon and then bathers her feet in the Segura river, allowing them to live happily ever after.
  • 00:30 Concert and Gastro Trucks located at the redonda parking, behind the castle.

Saturday 16th July

  • 13:00 Ringing of the church bells and the firing of rockets in the Plaza del Ayuntameinto.
  • 22:00 Multicoloured Parade. Route: C/Mayor at the corner with C/Norte, along Avda. Pais Valenciano finishing at the Plaza Jaume II.

Sunday 17th July

  • 13:00 Ringing of the church bells and the firing of rockets in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
  • 20:00 Parade of the Fiesta Queens, the Captains and Ambassadors of the Moors & Christians and music bands. Route: leave from the town hall, going along Ingeniero Mira finishing at the Parque Reina Sofia
  • 20:30 Grand Concert in the Parque Renia Sofia.

Monday 18th July

  • 13:00 Ringing of the church bells and the firing of rockets in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
  • 18:00 Opening of the Medieval Market along Calle Castell, behind the church
  • 20:30 Song and Dance Concert in the Parque Renia Sofia.

Tuesday 19th July

  • 13:00 Ringing of the church bells and the firing of rockets in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
  • 18:00 Medieval Market
  • 22:30 Correcofcs. Route: leave from below the townhall, along C/ Miguel Hernández, C/ San Francisco, C/ Aúsias March, C/ San Jaime, Plaza de Abastos, C/ Ingeniero Mira finishing at the Plaza de la Constitucion.

Wednesday 20thJuly

  • 13:00 Ringing of the church bells and the firing of rockets in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
  • 18:00 Medieval Market
  • 21:00 Informal Parading of the Comparsas (regiments of the Moors and Christians) through the streets of Guardamar finishing in the Plaza de la Constitucion at 22:00.

Thursday 21st July

  • 13:00 Ringing of the church bells and the firing of rockets in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
  • 20:00 First Guerrilla, mock battle along Avenida Pais Valencia starting where it meets calle Lepanto and finishing in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The Christians lead as they have just been expelled by the Moors
  • 21:00 Entrance into the Castle, leaving from the Plaza Labradores, the Moorish Comparsas conquer and enter the castle, followed by a parade along Calle Mayor to the Plaza Labradores.

Friday 22nd July

  • 13:00 Ringing of the church bells and the firing of rockets in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
  • 20:00 Second Guerrilla, mock battle along Calle del Castillo, Calle Gratitud, Plaza Labradores and Calle Mayor, finishing in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The Moors lead as they have just been expelled by the Christians.
  • 21:00 Entrance into the Castle. Exiting from the Plaza Labradores, the Moors occupy the castle first and the Christians capture it, followed by a parade along Avda. País Valencià to Plaça dels Pescadors.

Saturday 23rd July

  • 13:00 Ringing of the church bells and the firing of rockets in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
  • 20:30 Entrance of the Christians followed by the Moors. Route: Avda. País Valenciano at the corner with C/ Lepanto, C/ Mayor para finishing at C/ Mayor at the corner with C/ Norte.

Sunday 24th July

  • 13:00 Ringing of the church bells and the firing of rockets in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
  • 19:00 Entrance of the Music Bands. Route starting on C/Mayor at the corner with C/Norte, along C/Mayor, finishing on Avda. Pais Valenciano at the corner with C/Lepanto.
  • 20:30 Entrance of the Moors followed by the Christians. Route: Avda. País Valenciano at the corner with C/ Lepanto, C/ Mayor para finishing at C/ Mayor at the corner with C/ Norte

Monday 25th July

  • 11:30 Parade with the Fiesta Queens, Moors and Christians Captains, Flag Bearers and Musical Bands. Route: leaving from the La Junta Central en C/ Colón, 32, along C/Colón, C/ Gratitud, C/ San José, C/ Ingeniero Mira, C/ Ausias March, C/Las Viñas, C/Luis Rivera, C/Mediodía, C/Vicente Ramos, C/ Ingeniero Mira and finishing in the Plaza de la Constitución.
  • 12:30 Reception of the Moors and Christians Captains at the town hall.
  • 13:00 Mascletas in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
  • 20:00 Mass in honour of San Jaime.
  • 21:00 Procession with the statue of San Jaime, the Fiesta Queens, Captains and Ambassadors of the Moors and Christians. Route: C/ Ingeniero Mira, Plaza de Abastos, C/ San Emigdio, C/ Valencia, C/ Mayor, Avda. País Valenciano, C/ Medio día, C/ Vicente Ramos finally entering the church, followed by fireworks from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento
  • 00:30 Fireworks on the La Roqueta beach.
