Irene and William McLaughlan enjoy the retirement home they have always dreamed of in Spain

Irene and William McLaughlan are a Scottish couple from North Lanarkshire who were pursuing a single dream: to retire in a traditional village near the splendid beaches of the Costa Blanca in Spain. After attending several "A Place in The Sun" real estate exhibitions in Glasgow, they decided to choose Vincent Real Estate as the real estate in Orihuela Costa that would accompany them to complete their exciting time in the Mediterranean.

When they started searching for properties online, they thought of a traditional Spanish villa or a bungalow sorrounded by a rural scenery. However, they could not have imagined that they would end up buying a modern off-plan townhouse on a small urbanisation in Rojales. They were surprised by a plot of 15 units with a rural perspective, the perfect spot to design the house they had always imagined.

Our estate agent Josh introduced them to Tomas, a trusted local builder who helped them to settle the details of one of the standard plans. The ideas began to take shape and today the project has grown into a stylish four bedroom, four bathroom townhouse with an open kitchen and terrace with a private pool. The total cost was around 280,000 euros (237,650 pounds), including extras and purchase costs.

In spite of the circumstances (Brexit, floods and Irene's cancer), this charming couple has not given up on building a warm home on the Costa Blanca. They are now happily settled in their new life in Spain with exceptional health care and waiting to apply for their residency.
