Delicious cuisine in the Ruta de la Tapa Torrevieja

THE THIRTEENTH edition of the Ruta de la Tapa Torrevieja has entered its final weekend and finishes on Sunday evening.

This edition involves a total of 57 establishments that have developed 228 different tapas between the typical and Gourmet tapas, to present the best of this special Spanish gastronomy event.Last weekend attracted thousands of customers to local bars, cafés and restaurants who took advantage of this form of gastronomy, especially at such an excellent price for tapas and drinks. The imagination put into the presentation and style of many restaurants and bars, has soared in recent years, attracting a wide audience who enjoy the special offer of culinary treats. Many foreign 'torrevejenses' were found over the weekend sampling the tapas prepared by the fifty-seven participating restaurants in the city.One of the most interesting finds was that establishments reported that most of the "tapas parties" are youth groups who have taken the time to organise their itineraries in advance, so as to avoid missing out on any of the items that are on offer. Although some establishments offer the specials all day long, the minimum schedule is from 12 noon to 4:30pm and 7:30pm to 11pm, at the unbeatable price of just 2€ for a basic house tapa and fifty cents more for a very special gourmet version; both with drinks included.This initiative aims to promote the cuisine of the city at affordable prices and has become one of the most popular gastronomic events in the whole region of the Vega Baja. La Ruta de la Tapa is organized by the Department of Tourism and Hospitality, in collaboration with the Hospitality and Commerce Association of Torrevieja.For those wishing to try to win some special prizes, there's also an app for iPhone and Android mobile phones and tablets that's free and easy to use. 'Ruta Torrevieja Tapa' provides the location of the 57 participating bars and restaurants and their tapas to encourage visitors to take photos and share them via social networks.
