Remain active in retirement
A PROJECT preparing people for retirement is being developed at the University of Alicante (UA).
Concha Bru, director of the Permanent University of the UA, said a lot of people look forward to having the leisure time to enjoy family and things they have not had time to do before, “but for some, they are not ready for it and struggle going from being very active mentally to suddenly experiencing a slower pace.”
Last year the University of Alicante reported that 19 academics retired from their post. Many of those who retire maintained at first the link with the university but that gradually ends, which can be difficult for some, who need to remain active.
Bru explained that people should plan for their retirement maybe some five years before they stop work and that the preparation depends on the person, their interests and their health also.
